Gumtree lunatics! Post your worst response to an ad you've listed !!

Got one today. Trying to sell a vehicle and reduced it $500 from last weeks price as it is dragging on.. get the "whats the least you'll take" txt. Replied with a $100 reduction and got a no thanks is that all you are going to drop it by?? Response. I mentioned that i had already dropped $500 and then i get called a unpleasant and unprintable name and a speil about being rude to a woman with little negotiation skills... to add fuel to her self ignited bonfire of anger and hate i sent back a sweet apology for appearing rude due to the lack of smilies being used in my first reply, and that maybe she should at least view the vehicle first before making rock bottom negotiation overtures.

Where do these people come from???

I thought about sending her a link to an anger management clinic but who knows what they are capable of so just ended it politely ..

    ☺ oh happy day☺

Yes JC, they walk amongst us. When I was shopping around for a rooftop tent last year, I spoke to a guy who had a suitable tent which had been advertised online for more than a month. After a day of SMS tennis, I ended up sorting out a time to collect the tent.

When I was almost at his house (200km round trip), the guy rang me and said don't bother as he just sold it for more than his quoted price. Then he got really annoyed when I said that wasn't a very honourable thing to do!

    Hmmm.....

I have a car on Gumtree at the moment. I have had a few messages offering $500. They're just playing. I accept and I never hear from them again.
One guy said he would collect it. On the agreed day, he didn't turn up.
Another fellow wanted just one part of the car. I responded with "The whole car is for sale." He wanted my phone number so he could talk me into selling just that part. I replied he could ask as many questions he liked via email. His response was that it was too hard. It would have been good if he had gone away but he kept emailing me asking if it was still for sale.

But the best one I got was on a Moke. A woman wanted to buy it for her daughter. I suggested that perhaps it wasn't the car for her. Mum barreled on,though. For the advertised price (as is where is), mum wanted me to refurbish the motor and drive train, give it a new paint job and guarantee it will be a reliable car. "Listen, lady" I said, "When you find one of those, ask if he has another, 'cause I want one."
Daughter then stormed off to the family car and mother continued to make demands.

You need to have a thick skin to deal with the great unwashed, but then, operating a business, I guess you're used to that.

    That's a good one. I think I'll use it as a seller.

We've been selling a few things on gumtree lately and 9 times out of 10 the cretins offer you half of what youve advertised it for and then want you to meet them halfway between your place and theirs so they dont have to drive so far.

So I've put my foot down and now we just ignore all offers and if they want us to travel part way to them we close the discussion down. Takes a while but we have been selling at asking price and making the buyer collect.

I'd rather take good gear to the tip than sell it to a tightarse tosser via gumtree.

I bought some stuff off Gumtree. When I went to collect it, the bloke couldn't remember what price he'd asked. So I told him. He said his internet had been closed as he was moving and he couldn't check but he was sure I was wrong. He reckoned the price was half what I'd said it was.

Oh well, you can't win 'em all!

I wonder how many desperate people they get with there ridiculously low offers.
I recently sold a hard case spare wheel cover, normally go for $200+ I listed it for a quick sale at $180, I get offered $40. 5 simex at 90% asking 1000, get offered $400. Generally there not too fussed about the item, just want to get something for next to nothing!!

Carsales is no better, the amount of people that would try negotiate and offer over txt without even seeing the car is crazy. Selling my Wrx I got offers 10,000k less
Than what I was asking without even looking at the car. Even had one guy say that as he would put a few kms on it driving it everyday it would be worth less when he goes to sell it so could only offer me the price he would get for it once he's put 50,000 more km on it!! Err not how it works buddy.

I sold a car recently on Gumtree.
$1500 was the asking price. Guy asked for $1000 and he will pick it up.
    Sight unseen!

Days later he come to inspect.
He took it for a drive, called his mechanic mate and then purchased it.
He had a 150km drive home. Car unregistered and sold AS IS.

Anyway i had to go the same way he did and seen the old car broken down on the side of the road, bonnet up and no one there.
Got a message later from the guy saying the car spat a seal and oil everywhere.

I do feel bad, but do get a giggle out of it.

Gumtree..... it is what it is.
Anything that is a good deal if often lapped up by people turning stuff instantly.
The rest is low balled pretty much as standard.
I must admit im guilty of doing that myself.
Looking for people needing a quick sale for cash.
