    Catalyst programme about riding gear

From a bike forum I'm on. Dunno how long it will stay available on iView.

    I think that's it - ABC Iview

Short story, wearing (some types of) ATGATT on a hot day is very very dangerous, and some protective gear is better than others (how suprising), most textiles are crap, kevlar is where its at.

Very informative, I'm up for new gear, might get myself some leather and Kevlar pants and a decent vented jacket, my leather jacket will be good for day rides on the Kawasaki and the Kevlar gear for the BM for touring.
    Cheers Baz.

Yep, watched it on Iview the other day - was a very good. SWMBO is about to get new gear, so some lessons learnt.

Oh, and it's available on Iview until December 16, so plenty of time to catch it.

Don't underestimate decent bike boots/shoes. I just got cleaned up on my bike at a red light by a truck, thrown and flipped like a rag doll. Broken fibula and foot, chipped ankle. A little sore. So gloves saved me skinning my hands, jacket didn't do much nor did helmet due to being stopped and way I landed. Was wearing just work trousers, so a few lacerations and bruises to knee. I reckon the boots with ankle moulding etc (no steel cap or anything) supported my foot and limited the damage.

Talking of the right gear to wear. I noticed the truck driver jumped out of his cab immediately wearing only explorer socks on his feet.

Not good. I hope you make a full recovery and your lost wages and costs are covered.

    How's the bike?

Was he a red light runner? I see them every day so I have no objection to red light cameras. I no longer take off from the lights without double checking both ways.

If I'm stopping at a red light, I check my mirrors if in the car or on the bike. I've had the P38A rear-ended by a bloke who thought I'd run the red and he'd follow. I didn't run the red.

Cheers. Yep, TAC claim approved. Not sure what to do as I'll be off for 6 weeks. Will see with work if I can work from home. I'd rather full pay than 80% of wage and sitting on my bum. I really hurt today though. Just had the cast put on. Broken fibula and talus.

I was stopped at a red light waiting. He slammed into me, said he didn't see me, he was looking to the cross traffic to see if they were stopping so he could continue without having to stop. In doing so reckons he didn't see me. Bike is a write off, 07 R1, snapped rearsets both sides (it flipped), busted exhausts, all farings scratched, engine case and clutch dented and scratched/gouged, smashed lights, bent shifter rod, subframe bent...pretty stuffed.

    Not good.

    Did he get booked?

I bought a stop light modulator a while back and don't know whether to fit it to the stop light in my top box. My concern is whether the police would take dim view of it.

I've also considered fitting a front flashing white light and rear flashing rear light from a push bike. Again, I don't know how the HWP would react.

Don't know yet. They have found him at fault for not maintaining a safe stopping distance. I've always felt the best way to avoid this is to be out front in the traffic and when stopped place yourself front and centre, be ready to move off and be aware of what's around or moving near you. I must say I had a lax moment and didn't have time to respond.
