Pros and cons of sunroof on disco 4

    Hi everyone ,

I would really appreciate your feedback one weather or not it's avoid idea to have the sunroof option or not on the disco 4.

Eg sunburn does it dry out the leather in the sun?

As there are 3 openings do they all have complete blackouts or not?

    Thanks

No complete blackouts, just mesh blinds on all glass.

I don't find it too bright and like the open feeling it gives the cabin.

I never open the blinds so haven't experienced any sunburn or problems with my leather.

The reasons for not having a sunroof are myriad.

    1. there are holes in your roof and much more potential for leaking.

    2. The drains block and the sunroof leaks.

    3. The mechanism on the front sunroof is plastic and cracks, For this reason I only open my sunroof a couple of times a year to stop it seizing.

    4. You can't block out the light completely.

    5. A lot more things to go wrong: added electrics, potential leaks, blinds etc.

Personally I don't like sunroofs, however 4 of my last 5 cars have had them. 2 of those cars have had leaking problems (Subaru Outback and D3). If I have the choice and was buying new I wouldn't option a sunroof.

hang on, you're in a car with more computers than the ISS and you're worried about the tiny bit that works the sunroof ???
We open both of ours every time we get in the car, cools the car much quicker than just aircon, and if you travel with a pet, sunroofs are the best thing since sliced bread.

The only other cons other than those outlined by Geedublya are the costs of repair.
Sunroof almost 2K and at least one full day
Panoramic glass almost 3K and 3-4 full days
If you have unlimited glass cover insurance then no worries at all.

The only car I ever had that had a sunroof had endless problems with it. Never ordered one again (although I have had 3 convertibles which is a much better option ). I never wish I had one on my Disco. SHMBO has a panoramic roof in her Pug, but she never opens the blind, so I don't know why.

I had one on a hatchback I had for a few years and absolutely loved it!! It was an aftermarket job with a full blackout blind and it would "self close" when the car was locked (except if it was only tilted ajar rather than opened).

Cars since have been leased so never got the roof and the factory options were too expensive IMHO.

No idea what the LR Panoramic roof is like, but without blackout I would be concerned about heat in summer.

I love my panoramic roof, additional heat is not an issue.
Love the 'airy' feel it gives inside.
Love the quick 'deheat' when you want it.
The blocked sunroof drain holes are not an issue once you trim the end of the outlet pipes.
I didn't really want them but as the car was secondhand I didn't let it put me off. Glad I didn't.

I had a black disco sport as a loaner just before xmas,it had a glass roof.
It reminded me why I bought a white Disco this time around after owning a black D2,I must admit I liked the glass roof, and it did have a blind.
BUT,Im a ranga, already have had 1 melanoma,I dont need extra sun exposure.Black vehicle/glass roof on a 43degC day in Perth doesnt work.I will say the aircon in the baby disco was exceptional. It cooled the vehicle very quickly after being parked and isnt as noisy as the D4 aircon. Was the best day to test it.
