Range Rover or Discovery with 2.8 Power stroke Diesel

I am just dreaming here, but what are peoples thought on the 2.8 power stroke and what would you put it in.

I was thinking a early 90`s RR with auto with a crapped out V8 would be a good donor. Looks like you shoud be able to pick one up for around the 4 to 6 k mark.

Disco?? I think it would have to be a 94 onwards Disco and are around the same price as the RR with a V8 in it.

Then again some Hi km TD5 Discovery are coming down in prices, seen them around on the net for around 17 to 20Ks. Probably what you would spend on a RR or early Disoc once the 2.8 was in and running.

So gentleman and Ladies what are your thoughts.?????????

From what i've heard they are a great engine, with performance to match. I've got an article in an LROI somewhere. They put one into one of their discoveries. I can dig it out if you are interested?

Also, if you missed it there is a bloke on here who is bringing these engines into Aus, but they are quite expensive.

    2.8 Powerstroke

Yes would love the article if u dont mind, i am posted OS at the moment and getting mags where I am can be hard. I have heard of the article but unable to get it. I will give you my email if you can scan it.
    Thanks Lobo.

Yep have seen the price of motors , thats why a was throwing the idea around. I will be back at the end of the year if things go well and will be looking for another vehicle. So i was thining of looking around for something I could get done so when I land back in Oz I have a Vehicle. I will probaly go the Disco route(without 2.8, but 300tdi), however I think a 90`s RR would be neat with the 2.8 in it. I guess others have spent the same (10K) converting their RR with the 300TDI, maybe a little less, however that would be with a Second Hand Motor and less HP, where I would have a brand new motor.
I am a lazy driver and would like a auto,(I also think a Auto is better in the sand), however I drove a Disco once with 2.5 diesel in and boy was it sloooooooooow. I cant remember if it was 200TDI or 300TDI.

Of course it would be over capitilised, but dare I say it a lot of 4wd owners over capitalise on there vehicle??? If not with restoration etc, with winches, bull bars, LR tanks etc etc.

I would have a vehicle that would last for at least 10yrs with out touching the drive train.

Yep was thinking about that line, however when I come back I wont have a back yard to do it, place to sell parts etc. Also will need to find a trashed disco and a RR.

Have you finished your project yet? If so hows it going?
