XYZ switch advice please

Hi all
Just after a few ideas about my XYZ switch.
Had a new auto fitted to our '03 Td5 and the box is working really nicely. However, we carried the XYZ switch across from the old box and just having a few issues getting all the gears positions to illuminate in the LCD.
I've been underneath and withe the pawl in the P position, loosened the clamp for the selector cable and made sure the selector on the switch is also in P, also pulled the cable as far clockwise as possible.
But, as I cycle through positions I can only get reliable indications for P, R, 3, 2. I can't really get 1 at all and both N & D need a little jiggling.

I'm trying to figure if a new sector cable is needed or if the switch, of unknown age, isn't happy with having been messed about with.

Any suggestions as to a solution or things to try?

Doubt it would be the cable, try loosening it and working the switch itself while getting a helper to observe the dash display or you could do it yourself if you want to get out from under and look every time you click the detent . if it still misses d and1 you will need to drill out the rivets and repair the contacts . if it does go through prnd321 then its adjustment only, if its standard 03 exhaust that cat converter is right where you don't want it .

When I recently had my selector out, I had a bit of a problem with all things aligning. The selector tbar will not light unless it is the correct position for each gear.
So I got under and with the selector in N undid the adjuster bolt. The cable then clicked into position by moving a tiny bit . I then had N on selector Tbar, and N on the dash.
AFAIK as long as the dash matches the Tbar you should be OK as the dash takes the signal from the XYZ.

I think you may be on the money unfortunately. My guess is it was quite happy where it was and didn't like being disturbed. I might grab a 2nd hand one, refurb it and fit that, which will minimise the downtime and leave me with another spare to refurb - handy with two D2s anyway. And yes, that cat is very conveniently placed...

PhilipA, yes I did that too, as it initially wouldn't select Park, so jumped under and slackened the bolt with the pawl in the Park detent, the shaft and cable both clicked into where they should be so now I have a reliable park position.

The switch is fitted and aligned when in neutral using the alignment tool. I would try it this way, put the selector in neutral, loosen the switch, gently move it and have someone tell you when the light is on at the shifter.

For reference I had a similar issue on the weekend. I was trying to get the red light on the selector correct with the head lights on instead of the dash letters.

I did all the same things in P with the cable to check this too. I also then put the selector in N and rotated the switch slightly to align the red light and the selector.

I found that rotating the switch full clockwise so the front / lower bolt was hard against the end of the adjustment then turning it counter clockwise (down at the front) about 3-5mm got it bag on for me.
