New series to restore. ID plate assistance please

    Hi guys,

    Time for my first post.

I have been a keen observer and lurker on the forum for a while, but have recently purchased my first series landy, (having previously worked on older German machines like old Mercedes).

I have recently purchased an 88" shorty numbered24302583a. (Numbers are consistent on plate and rear hanger).

Can anyone shed any light on his ID/ history? What do the ID numbers tell me??

In addition to the Rover plate, it also bears a PMC plate as follows:

    Body no: LRS 5959
    Ser no: 88 5959

Would appreciate any extra info u have.

    Thanks,

    Kai

Thanks very much for the quick reply.

Yes, I will post up some pics soon and more detailed plans ASAP.

Do I understand from the notes about the "a suffix" that the build date is: October 1961 till March 1963?

    Can it be narrowed down?

The engine number suffix will also have a date range and any overlap between the two may narrow it down for you.
Gearbox and diff numbers may as well

For that decade there were an average of 11,000 petrol 88s built per year. Since that is only 2582 past the first one, it is a reasonable guess that it was built (or at any rate the kit left Solihull) in the first half of the first year (i.e. starting August 1961). This would suggest it probably was assembled in Sydney somewhere around the beginning of 1962.

I know this is not definite, but this is a reasonable calculation. Hope it helps.
