I found this site a while ago looking for advice on four wheel drives and searching for one. After much time spent here and there and looking anumerous cars i bought my new toy yesterday, I know you will all cringe, maybe, but here goes; I got a 2001 78 series troopy 4.2 turbo diesel with loads of extras and only 91000km I paid a very fair price of $30500 and am not regretting a penny spent. Except that the main reason i was looking at getting a defender instead was due to the fact that i fill both tanks on the troopy and go about 1200km I expect the LR Defender would of been better on fuel consumption.
At any rate I enjoyed my short membership here, great site for LR owners! Anyone know of a good Toyota Troopy site as good!!

    Hi Wise67
Not only would the Defender kill the Cruiser in fuel economy,it would kill it in power and off road ability(COMPARING STANDARD VEHICLES OF THE SAME AGE).Even in turbo form the 4.2 commercial motor is a thirsty slug, its not the same multivalve 4.2 turbo used in the 100 series.
The tojo troopy is a unique vehicle, its got acres of room, tojo realiability and country backup,LANDROVER SUCKS HERE,and a much better build quality that the Defender can lack.
Goodluck with your new vehicle, dont forget to drop in from time to time,I dont think that because you have chosen the "DARK SIDE" you will be unwelcome.I have a mitsi 4X4,and others here have "other" vehicles.
    Best of luck
    Andrew

As Land Rover peeps we are dissapointed to hear you bought a Cruiser, but we are open minded people and respect a persons choice to buy what ever vehicle they want. Good luck with the purchase. Matt
