    Extended Warranty

    Hi Guys

I thought I could get some sound advice regarding extended warranty situation

I Just bought a 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 2.10 XS 99500km the other day and while I was going through the sale he suggested to purchase the dealer extended warranty, After looking at all the limitations and that it wasn't allianz or a recognizable brand, I refused. I have been burnt in the past by dodgy service and denied claims and huge headaches that I wouldn't fall for it again.

However after spending close to 30,000$ my misses is telling me to get it as I don't think we could afford major mechanical works or repairs if the time came.

I contacted warrantyandinsurance.com.au and the sales rep replied:

The policy replicates the manufacturer's warranty (minor exclusions apply), has no excess and individual claim limit of $5,000 per claim. It is transferable to new owners and can be cancelled with pro rata refunds if no claims have been made. You can service the vehicle at any licensed mechanical workshop or dealer, your choice, and you must continue to service in accordance with the log book schedule.

    Avea Diamond Warranty (225,000klm limit)
    3 year - $2300

After reading all most of the posts on the topic i can't decide whether to get it and if i do who to go with, any recommendations ?

    Cheers

Same boat as you ...Have just purchased a RRS 2010 .

Opted for extended warranty through same dealer - criteria is must have been serviced every 6 months or 10,000km and its good for 5 yrs . Roughly the same price and repair limitations .

But i notice that it has a caveat that the repair can use replacement or pre used parts - up to the $5000.00 limit with an excess of $150

My self managed arguement is insurance is better if you have it and never use .......
For the small cost one claim ( which i hope not to use ) it will be fine .

My other half said "you'd be mental not to opt in for it "

Yes, I think Avea is similar, They can use replacement or pre-used parts, 5000$ limit per claim, unlimited claims, no excess, maximum claim is market value of the car. Wear and Tear not covered and obviously some other exclusions which are clearly listed in the PDS.

The peace of mind is what im after, I love driving my new car however deep down i am truly worried about possible repair costs inflicted in the future, more anxious then excited, last thing i need is a 3 - 4k repair bill due to a diff or engine issue.

My problem is sourcing a good insurer or reputable contact, pref allianz. I might call Platnum Direct Insurance as I've read good reviews and people have posted positive posts on them.

Don't worry, My other half is constantly on me about getting it which insurers have you looked at?

    thanks grumbles for the PM
