Sticker Etiquette

    Dealing with the important issuess......

I am relatively new to this 4WD scene and am about to do my first road trip with the camping trailer, to Tassie. I won't be off-road that much but it's a start.

I have seen many 4WD's covered with stickers indicating the places that they have been. This got me to thinking "What is the criteria for claiming to have been somewhere?" To me the stickers give you travel credibility so if you just drive through a town, stopping only long enough for a sticker, can you really put it on your car as a trophy? Or do you at least need to stop for a cuppa? Or do you need to sleep with one of the locals?

I would hate to mis-represent myself and become a laughing stock of the 4Wd community. I have way better ways of becoming a laughing stock, like posting asinine threads.

If you've been there, you can collect the sticker. If you have not been there, then you shouldn't wear it, that would be deception.

Anyhoo, I have a no-sticker policy on the 4WD, but the Esky gets a workout.

I think that although just passing through is justifcation, sleeping with one of the locals might be more fun

I think you should at least sleep over, sleeping "with" is optional and does'nt qualify for an extra sticker

The other thing is that some of the 4Bs covered in stickers may have been already on the vehicle when purchased, which would make them fakes and should be burnt at the stake

Leave the stickers for the esky or stickem on the camper.

And you'll love Tassie, if you can, do the road that goes around the north west coast and then joins the Western Explorer Rd through to the punt at Corinna on the Pieman river, it's dirt most of the way but the views are worth it.

Sleeping with one of the locals doesn't count if you had to pay. 8O
