I was told the same thing a few months ago and that is indeed good news! I drive around with a second hand unit right now and I do not feel comfortable not having spares![]()
I had a chat with Dave Ashcroft re the supply of the transmission viscous couplings for P38s.
He tells me they are looking at remanufacturing them ie making a new side plate to replace the worn female spline and refilling with fluid.
This is good news.

My understanding is that they are interchangeable. Perhaps some one in the know may post a definitive answer.
Yes they are interchangeable, they've the same part number.

Yes indeed, my information is that they are the same VC. Both murder the VC. The only difference being the Classic will also kill the output shaft, but leaves the chain with only "normal" wear, whereas the same box in the P38 is easier on the shaft, but stretches & chews the chain. And cogs.
Nobody knows 'Why' ...![]()
They are different boxes, but the p38 being heavier with more torque is likely the culprit.
I hate to think how much torque is going through the chain in lowrange sometimes!

Bit of an update here.
I had a bit of a decko at the Ashcroft website wondering where they were up to with their re-manufactured Viscous Couplings project. The good news is that these are now available and listed on their website.

I... can't find the VC's? The link you provided shows us torque converters which is not the same thing
I tried a quick search but it only turned up a freelander unit.
You are spot on Prelude. I saw what I wanted to see and got it wrong. Appreciate the correction.
However there is some good news from Superquag re the Viscous Coupling availability.
