    Freelander V6 2.5 2003 - any comments

    Hi

    A young woman of my acquaintance has moved to Perth and is looking at a Freelander. I don't know much about them good or bad. Can anybody chuck in their 2 cents. It is 2003 model with 16k on the clock.

    cheers

    The V6 model in that year is pretty safe, the 1.8L petrol is not worth touching, and early ones had an issue with the IRD, but that model should be just fine.

    I'm told that they are a little thirsty, but nothing serious.

    You should be pretty right - just a bit thirsty but they do go well. I think the engine is basically the same one that is in a Kia Carniaval. Kia nicked the engine from Rover.

    I did some research into buying a freelander and then the budget tightened and we couldnt buy one. But here is what i found;

    1) Dont buy one which was built before early 2000.
    2) Dont touch the 4cyl petrol model the engine is nothing but trouble.
    3) The V6 is a top engine but alot more thirsty than the diesel.
    4) Everyone told me to get a diesel auto as they are said to be best guy.

    Hope this helps. Matt

    The Freelander is a top little unit, V6 and the diesel are the pic of the motors and the 2003 model fixed the driveline problems. The V6 is a little thirsty but a lot of fun

    Not sure - the V6 ended up in a number of cars as did the 1.8 K engine. The V6 is the same basic engine as is in the Carnival but Landrover doesn't seem to have had any ongoing issues -dunno about Kia. The engine seems fine just a little thirsty.
