Well 2 front oil pump seals , some new swear words invented , and being able to remove a D3 starter motor in 35 mins, I finally found the reason for my front oil pump seals leaking.


I fitted a rubber oil seal ( after the Teflon 1 leaked ) which leaked about an hour after starting the car so I stripped it all out again to find a small cut in the inside lip of the rubber seal , close looking with a mirror and a torch revealed a burr on the crankshaft right where the seal sits and a raised edge running back to where the oil pump sits at about the 6 oclock position , so right on the bottom of the crankshaft . I cant work out how it got there as the first oil seal came out with the old pump and the second and 3rd seal I removed at the 3 and 9 oclock position.


Anyway, removed the oil pump , fine emery the shaft ( remember to put some oil on the emery to stop the dust going into things ) the shaft cleaned up good, put pump back on and car back together and just took it for 100km test run and no leaks. - Thank ****


So people don't assume that because its a area that should be all good that it is . take 5 mins to have a real good look before you fit your new pump or seal ( a mirror and torch works but your finger tips will let you know straight away ) and save yourself 2.5 days work and some major frustration like what happened to me.


So we are off to give it a few thousand km test run.
