Full top or Ute top?

Ok, i am contemplating getting a complete roof for the S11 instead of hunting around for another truck cab as the one on mine is cactus. I know i could get another truck cab easily enough, but i am asking your opinions on what is more practical. I can fit a roll cage and use it without the roof in warmer weather and then have the full top for the cooler months, and the entire roof would also offer more security than the ute. What do ya's reckon? Matt

 too many choices, what are you gunna be doing with it the most?and after all it is only a hand full of nuts and bolts to undo ,but just the hassle of fitting it back together when finished with ,and getting it wet proofed (what am i saying ,this is a landy were talking about!! )

for security reasons a hardtop would be better, but if i didnt have to worry about the kids falling out the side or things getting nicked i would go for a roll cage and a soft top with roll down sides ,nuthin like the wind in your hair(or whats left of it!! ) and the bugs in your teeth ops: 8)

Have you got any examples in photos LRH?

I had planned on an external roll cage, after seeing a 90 in LROI with the bars going over the roof and mounting to the sliders, then having bars sloping back to the back of the tub (ute) and two sloping forward to the top of the bull bar, looked pretty damn good. I could just run them along the top of the roof and then down to the rear step. No really sure. For security reasons i am moving towards the hard top, but with the external roll cage removing the top would be hard.

Cheap Full roof cut down to a ute roof size 8)

More room for the seats to go back.

With my seats (fixed back racing) i am too cramped in the standard ute cab. The back of the seats touch th window of the cab.

If I cut a normal roof down with a flat back wall, I will gain ~15cm of clearance to move the seat back 8)

BTW - I still love my ute

All depends on what you want from it - I have fairly recently (four years ago) changed my 2a from soft top to ute and converted the canvas to 3/4 with roll up sides. Main reasons for conversion - security, and better access to the back. I have a ute crane that is on a mount opposite the spare (with underpinnings down to the chassis outrigger), and this could not be used with a hardtop, and with the soft top, the canvas and hood bows had to come off to use it (actually, most of the time I used a ute cab canvas anyway, and the hard cab has better security, vision, and ventilation. Compared to the full length hard top the cab offers better vision, ventilation and heating.

If I need security in the back I plan to make and fit mesh sides, back and possibly roof panels that are attached to the frames and rear body capping.

I am thinking i will go with the full hard top, that way i can get a couple more seats engineered in. Can this be done? Even one inward facing bucket seat, is that legal if it is engineered? Matt
