Mounting points for Baby seats.

Due to the lastest addition to the family I have been instructed to have a seat fitted to the rangie (Not sure why considering how the slightest suggestion of taking the little bloke out in the rangie sees me getting that look we all know so well.

So the question at hand is has anyone fitted a baby seat to a rangie and if so where does the bloody thing go??

And for those that can't resist Yes I am aware it goes in the rear of the Rangie, just not that far up the rear

have a look at the roof lining just inside the tailgate....
if you have three plastic pugs up there this should be where the anchor points should be on a rangie......
remove/unscrew the plugs and you should find the hole has threads in it for the child restraints......</span>

My Rangie does not have any standard fittings. To get the baby seat fitted, a "ski pole" was used. there is a plate that is bolted through the floor to the subframe underneath. Then connected to the plate is a steel tube vertically upwards with a brace. The top of the tube has the baby seat fitting connected to it. The whole assembly is placed directly behind the left hand rear seat (easier to get to than the right hand).

The fitting was done by a registered fitting station and the assembly is the standard as suggested by the RTA, so therefore is all legal and safe, because who wants to compromise the lives of their kids???

Yeah. I'm not sure what year Range Rovers had the baby seat attachments added, but it must have been after 1986. When I bought the car, I didn't even think that there would not be attachements. Anyway, that is all over and done with now; the kids are old enough not to require the baby seat attachment now. Hooray, I have been able to refit the rear parcel shelf.

I did notice the three plugs however you also need to get in behind it to fit the nut to the back of the bolt, so this spot didn't seem logical as it would require removing the roof lining to fit the nut.

Some would say that the nut behind the wheel should be satisfactory but others might disagree

<span style="color:green">they are threaded holes for this purpose....no need to remove roof lining...
and if you pull down on the edge of the roof lining to see whats behind it, it will crease the backing material and remain permanently creased in the corner along the roof edge....

you also need to remove the speakers which hold the roof lining up.....


just pull out the plug and fit the bolt that comes with the capsule/seat....
it should be the correct size and thread.....
cant remember if you need to use a spacer though.....</span>



and fit to passenger side so you are not putting the baby in from the traffic side....

The thread in all standard restraint points should be standard, all car parts accessory stores sell them, we paid about $10 for the one we got for stacey's commodore, and the Disco had it as standard. You should be able to get one with a bolt that screws in, not one with a nut that needs to be fitted from the back.

If you are unsure Jason spend the cash and get it fitted by an expert, i think fines apply for ones that arent fitted properly. Matt

Or, just tell Kara that when the baby is allowed to go in the Rangie you will cross the restraint point bridge at that point. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]
