The last 300tdi 130?

Hi all

I have been told that my 1998 300tdi 130 is one the very last ever made. The last part of the serial number is WA159806.

Can anyone confirm this?

Your 130 may have been one of the last using a 300 Tdi motor made in UK before the TD5 was introduced. However some markets were not suited to this new technology and emission standards there did not yet require it. So the tooling was sent to Brazil and production apparently continued until 2006. Apparently British military were among customers did not want TD5's. Brazilians also produced a modified 2.8 litre version - the TGV. Some of these had variable pitch turbos which improved boost and pulling power at low revs.

I have a 'big cab' 300tdi 130 ute and it is a 1999 model from Vic water board originally.We rebuilt the motor at 200Kkms when I blew it up, and it now has a Disco 1 auto and modified turbo manifold from the 200tdi series--specially made years ago by John Davis Motorworks or maybe from Bruce Davis Perfomance Landies who did the auto conversion-may soon be going to fit the more powerful new turbos available.Great car.

I also have a big cab 130 compliance date 11/99 but the WA number is about 8000 less than 86muds number.
Probably it sat around for a while before the cab was converted and then got complianced

Here's a funny thing: about ten years ago, I was working on a project in Botswana which had a number of Landies. One vehicle (It was a late 300Tdi station wagon) had a stamp on the engine block which said "Argentina".

I was walking around the Land Rover factory in 2001 and they were still making 300tdi's for Africa and some other countries that need a more basic engine than the TD5. And don't forget the British army had 300tdi's until they stopped making he Defender this year.

On an other note. They were also still making brand new series land rovers for Africa
We asked why and they said That because of the leaf springs it meant they could not thrash them across the dirt like they were with the coil Spring defenders. Which was causing damage to them. Giving them leaf spring trucks saved a lot of damage
