    Disconnecting battery on a puma?

Folks a very quick question that I'm sure has been asked before.

I'm thinking of disconnecting the battery on my 2012 (2.2 Puma) prior to leaving it for a few months.

Will this affect the electronics, such as the central Locking, alarm or ECU? Or will I be able to just reconnect the battery, reset the time on the clock, and drive?

    Cheers

    Alan

Leaving a battery just sitting for a few months isn't good for it.

I would recommend a Ctek or equivalent hooked up and maintaining your battery in your absence.

    Hi Tombie

I knew somebody was going to suggest that!

I'm afraid my Land Rover will be stored at location without power -and the battery will almost certainly be flat when i return unless disconnected: Apart from the hassle of a jump start when I get back to it, having the battery discharged will do it no good. And I'm afraid taking the battery out to store on a trickle charge isn't an option either...

I just want to know whether I can disconnect my puma in the same way I do my other (older) vehicles without fancy electronics.

    cheers

    Alan

    You could,
Attach a Small solar panel and trickle charge it, emphasis small or
Follow the instructions in the handbook prior to disconnect or
In my case, inadvertently fully discharge it, it came good over several ctek full cycles, but I did have some weird dash glitches for a while, with gauges doing strange things.
But no grief from t he Ecu etc
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

You'll be fine. Just reconnect and it will start.

I left mine (2007 110) disconnected for 8 weeks when we went up north last year. Just started when re-connected.

    Should be fine.
Another option is I have a 15 watt solar panel trickle charging mine so it keeps it happy parked as we do not use the Defender for commuting. Trickle charge is good for the battery too.
