    Fault Code P0100

The only reference to this code I found on the forum was the post I mentioned it in 3 weeks ago. Having what I believed was a worsening case of black smoke I have been investigating why that would be.

I have had a remap recently and while this has improved fuel consumption (i.e. it is using less fuel) the black smoke did not decrease much.

I then cleaned the MAP sensor and this made a marked difference to the black smoke but did not eliminate it. Fuel consumption improved as well.

I have subsequently also cleaned the MAF sensor and this did not change the black smoke situation (as others have reported it has reduced theirs). I have also blanked the EGR this weekend.

However the Nanocom is still telling me that I have a P0100 MAF Sensor Circuit fault (historic). Concurrently to this, since I have had the vehicle, it has been very slow off idle and takes to 2000 RPM before it decides that it can actually perform. No amount of 'driving it like I stole it' in sport mode improves the 'off idle' performance.

An internet search has revealed others have similar issues although in the UK it seems to be 1500 RPM when their performance increases. Fixes have been:

the insertion of engine compartment fuse 17 - replaced mine with no change and even changed 13 also but without effect,

Cleaning MAF Sensor - yet again today without effect, and

Checking MAF Sensor plug voltages. With the engine running mine were Pin 1 (red & blue wire) 13.44V, Pin 2 (red) 5.02V, Pin 3 (white) 5.02V & Pin 4 (black) 0.02V. I thought black would have been the earth and therefore 0.

I also cleaned the plug and socket with electrical cleaner.

One post on the Disco3 site suggested unpluggin the MAF sensor and monitoring what happened. I did and there was no change in performance and no message centre or dash errors. Pushed for time I did not check with the Nanocom.

I have not had a chance to check the electrical diagram and may not even read it correctly if I did find what I am supposed to be looking for to check that my voltages are correct!

So is my next step getting a new MAF sensor or is there something else I should be checking? TIA.
    Cheers, Dale

With the Nanocom, can you bring up live values for air mass?
With a fault like that I would assume a dead MAF, but if the Nanocom can give you live values, just idling and reving the engine should make the value change, if it is stuck at one value, then I would definitely say bad MAF

Oops - thanks Justin. Yes the live value is a big 0 at any engine speed.

    Dale,

Post a picture of the part number on your MAF. I may have a spare you can test with to save you spending on a brand new one to find it doesn't change.

You mean I have to go downstairs in the dark, fighting cane toads and the like to take a photo for you

    Oh OK then

That's ok, because I'm not going outside until it gets light to find the one I've got to check it's the same.

Dodged 3 cane toads but fortunately it's too cold for carpet pythons.

Ok, I braved the sub-Arctic winds, mozzies slightly smaller than a C-130, and a strategically discarded dog toy to find that the one I have is the same.

If you want, I can stick it in the post tomorrow, so you can give it a test, and see if it makes a difference.

MAF sensor - yes please. All other references in that post ARE YOURS.

Do you still have the PM with my address?
