    Johnstone engine conversion

    Hi.

I am just wondering whether anyone has Johnstone engine conversion on their series and had/has passed RWC and club permit or full rego.

Mine got johnstone conversion where the cross member been cut a 1/4 to fit radiator. Still considering whether to leave it like that or replace the cross member and get a customised radiator to fit.

    Thanks.

    As mentioned elsewhere.....

Some Clubs will not allow non-standard engines so find a Club first.

If VicRoads don't have it on their database with the current engine number then you may have to get it 'engineered' , because the front crossmember is modified this may prove problematic/expensive.

Lots of Land Rovers have been registered with Holden conversions. In period they probably wouldn't have had to 'jump through so many hoops' as we do now to get it registered. If on continuous registration they may have managed to get the engine number changed without it ever being 'signed off'.
Just pulled a 161 out of a Series III but whether it was officially 'signed off' is unknown, the bolt-in engine mounts with no crush-tubes in the chassis makes me wonder. Car is being scrapped so not an issue now.

As the Holden motor is more powerful than the original (you need to check the figures) you may need to improve the brakes (booster), two speed wipers etc. etc. to keep the engineer happy.

Probably worth finding an engineer who can sign it off and ask a few questions before proceeding.
