USB Plug in over head Console

Has any one tried to put a USB Plug in the over head console?

Or even if there is enough power already up there that can be taped into, to run a USB plug?

I'm looking at getting a dash cam and I hate cables dangling from the top of the windscreen. I was hopping if I could install a USB plug where the switches for the sunroof go, it would keep the cables out of eye sight.

Not exactly what you have in mind but here's what has been done for neat dashcam wiring installs:

    Thanks ytt105,

Have you installed a USB plug in the overhead console on your car?

Do you have any pictures or just some advice as to which type of USB plug to use or which wires to tap into?

    Cheers Bruce

USB Plug in over head Console

You want it to run a camera, but I wouldn't have it poking out as a fitting...
Fit a cable based one and have it sticking just out near the mirror.

Offroad a USB will just vibrate out if inverted.

I wired in a cigarette lighter plug, then put a USB charger into that, taped the whole lot together so it wouldn't shake loose). Then put the whole lot up behind the light cover, (plenty of room). Just ran the charger cable out from under the light cover to where I wanted it.

Can't remember which wire is ignition power but its easy to get to.
