    Lock nuts won't come off.

Hello all, after reading about the problems with the D2 lock nuts, I've bought a set. I've just tried to remove them with the following results. The lock nut is chewed up. The lock socket is split and onr of the pins has gone AWOL. My problem is how to remove these lock nuts, A tyre place?
I'm glad it happened at home, not in the middle of Oodnawoopwoop many miles from any where.

    TIA

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

    Lock nots won't come off.

I had to find a socket I didn't love and hammer it on with a small piece or metal rod where the indentations on the nut are. I then drowned it in wd-40 and waited a bit. Then it was just some serious grunt and a bar extension on the non ratchet 1/2 drive tool whose real name escapes me right now. Take them off. Throw them away. You are sooooo right about being lucky it was at home. I couldn't believe how hard it was to get them free.

Irwin makes a tool removing stripped nuts.
Don't replace them with lock nuts again, we advise all our customers to replace with un keyed nuts. No one steels land rover wheels anyway.

Yep Mario is on the money so these will help Irwin - Bolt Remover 5Pc Base Set - 394001 | Total Tools
Should be able to get them just about anywhere.
You can also weld a nut onto the nut . Maybe you need a welder to add to the ever expanding collection of torque wrenches

I had to look up Stilson to find out what it is. I have a huge one of them at home.

    Thanks

They do come in smaller sizes also. You could also use one of those clway type wrenches that grab was you apply force.
But the irwins are a good investment for the tool box.

Yep, I'd slip and crack the rims.
