I'll be watching this with interest. A Navara with Merc bits, with more (Merc) in some models than others. This will be a +80k ute? Makes room for the Defender above the fray but below the Merc............

I like the look of these a lot. But I think they will be a bit like the G wagen and miss the mark of what they are IMHO. They should be work vehicles and not luxo barges

SupporterI can't believe someone released a concept vehicle showing proper tyres and not 20" bling! If only Land Rover could learn that lesson.

Merc is not going for the "work vehicle" sales - they are chasing the "luxo" market. Research has shown that the top rang models e.g. Ford Ranger Wild track are the biggest sellers, not the base model "tradie" pacs. So Merc could be on the right track.Originally Posted by shanegtr

I do not understand why they are using a Navara frame work when they have the G-wagon platform which i would have thought would have been the perfect starting point.
One way of being different would be to look at the Unimog platform - how cool would a ute on portals be.

Yep, I wanted one until I read the price, and I thought the Toyo offerings were over priced. That price does not include a tray either.

I had a close look at the fitted out rfs truck version G wagon at the AFAC conference in Brisbane. They also had a tray version fitted out by quick spray. Very nice truck but against the competition? Probably not good value for money. For the bare cab chassis you can probably buy two short wheel base canters.
Cab is very early land rover with hose out floors etc. no mats and pretty basic. Comment from those that had driven it was probably comparable to the trayback version of the Defa. Sitting on about 90km/hr was comfortable. Much more wasn't nice. Off road just about unbeatable although I would like to see how it handles a long descending slope at high weight.
Still deciding but did look at it as a serious replacement for the 300 tdi Defa
