    Bilsteins and a40 mm + spring?

    I've been told by a bilstein dealer that there b6 rears will handle a 40 mm lifted spring
    ( 110 td5 , shock is b46 0255 and dobinsons + 40 mm springs , the lighter of the two listed in there catalogue)
    Anyone have any experience with this length spring and bilsteins?
    I'm getting worried that I'll rip them in half or do the seals, if so any solutions( lift the bump stops , tie in the springs etc??..)
    I'd estimate with 1/2 a long range tank tools and bits n pieces for day to day use I'd have near 250 kg in the back
    Any thoughts?

    I cant comment on your setup, but most 2" nominal lifted springs increase ride height via a higher spring rate, so the free length of the spring, which is actually the important part rather than the ride height, doesn't actually change much. The free length of the spring is what really determines the shock length.

    Meaning, I wouldn't worry too much.

    Cheers slunnie, still digging around but all I can find on the shock part number is it's for a disco.... might have to call there head office and investigate more , bout 5 mm longer than a stock 110 rear but god knows what the valving is

    Go have a read of the gwyn Lewis web site, he sells a kit for landies.
    Basically if you lift the springs you shorten the down travel unless you fit a longer shock . The standard defender has about 8in in travel in the shock itself, if you fit taller springs the downward travel is reduced by that. The solution is to fit both a longer shock and raise the shock mount point, (or fit longer bump stops but that then limits your uptravel) so you get the best of both worlds.
