The battle that made Texas independent

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Thanks Bob. good reads. Interestingly my name is James Bowie and very distantly related to the Jim Bowie of the Alamo fame.

I have visited the site of the San Jacinto battlefield. Interestingly, adjoining it is the home of the USS Texas, which is, I think, the last surviving WW1 battleship.

A famous name. Have you traced your family tree? It would be an interesting story. I've often wondered how many Australians could trace their ancestors back to the US War of independence, or the Civil War. Supposedly , as the story goes, one of ours was a Scot., who jumped ship off a Yankee whaler, to seek his fortune on the gold fields. He is said to come from Nantucket, and fought for the North in the Civil War.But that could be just a family myth. Must chase it up one day.

That is interesting. I would love to do a tour of the Civil War battlefields.

Some more history. Perhaps they should have built a wall. Interesting that Mexicans fought on the side of Texas, called Tejanos, Texas born Mexicans.Wonder how many Tejanos are fighting for the USA today?.

Jim Bowie, meet Jim Bowie, a bit of a lad under any circumstances. He would have made a good Aussie, I reckon.
