    Thoughts on perentie prices

Just wondering if there's any consensus as to what perentie prices will do in the next few years?
I'm kinda fantasizing bout swapping from the td5 to a perentie in the future..I don't need the seats and extra doors and crap and I'm no longer in a hurry to go anywhere.
Seems to be more of a long term Landrover more in kin to my 86 inch
    Regards mark

So many people ask about the Perentie pricing.
    Everyone is after a bargain.

It is an auction. It very much depends on what is on offer and who is bidding on the day.

For you (the person who is reading this), it very much depends on what you want and when you want.

Having said all that generalised and variable rubbish, I will tell you what I am seeing.
Back when they were auctioning off the series 2as and series threes, I saw them initially sold at auction from $1500. Towards the end of the auctions, I was bidding up around the $7,000 mark and with some getting around $10,000.
I can see parallels with the current auctions. FFRs were getting around $6,000 to $8,000 bids. The last one I bid on got well over $14,000. Basically, at the auctions, I reckon they are going up.

Now back in the days of the S2as and S3s, after the auctions, the prices went down. People were getting rid of them for various reasons. They got married. The vehicle wasn't what they expected it to be. They had a change in life. The next owners could pick them up for not much but a lot of them had been bastardised, civilianised or just deteriorated into poor condition.
I can see that happening to the Perenties.
If you want one now, direct from the ADF, buy it now. Pay the price.
If you want to civilianise it and mod it, look for a bargain on the private market.
If you want to pick one up cheap but are in no rush, wait a few years after they've all been sold off.

In my opinion I paid too much for mine but I got one of the ones I wanted (a 6x6) and I've got it now. I want another (a 4x4). I reckon it'll be costing more than the 6x6. I also expect they will be worth less than what I will pay. That is the nature of an auction. To win, you must outbid your competition and out bid your market.

Now that I have said all that, Mark, what sort of Perentie do you want (GS, FFR, RFSV, .....), what do you want to do with/to it and, when do you want to get it?

Thanks Mick , I was kind of thinking that the novelty will wear off after a few years under canvas with the 4 speed box etc.... lack of security and all the other less civilised features lol... me.? Well I'm thinking there a more long term truck with the Isuzu than my td5 basically an empty box with 2 seats, I'm fairly rural so there's no trip shorter than 25 kms to get milk etc every 2 weeks, the rest of the time I'm pottering around the bush with a few slow longer trips tossed in.
To it I'd do little, possibly a light security cage over the back I'd love a pto winch ...basicly a long term bush truck, probably ditch the s1 and td5 and grab a bike for short trips
I'd like to think it could be kept as original as possible ( if nor reversible)
    Cheers mark

I hadn't considered the variants at the moment, I have looked online in passing and have noted some of the differences( aside from the6x6) ie some winch fitted, communications variants general purpose, as said more crystal ball gazing at a few years after the auctions wind up

As stated by the above wise comments....going for a premium at the minute...but a bit further down the track, when they have all been sold, the market is flooded, and the 'Toorak tractor' drivers realise that they are not as comfortable as a Range Rover, they will be on the market at reduced prices. My opinion only, I don't own a crystal ball.

I am surprised the prices have been so high. Many have lost money reselling them post auction, yet auction prices have remained high.

Anyone's guess what will happen once they are all auctioned.
