    My dad and two of his brothers came to Sydney to enlist. Dad was found medically unfit, the other two were sent to Singapore and obviously ended up as prisoners. Uncle Jim came down with appendicitis and was operated on in the camp and eventually recovered. As he was leaving the hospital his brother John was brought in with an appendicitis and was operated on. As he was recovering the Japanese moved the majority of the prisoners northward. Uncle John stayed and served out the war in Singapore. Uncle Jim died on the infamous death march at Sandakan.
