Not as big as I thought

I have a 2012 Discovery 4, I love it and rave about it all the time. It is quite large inside I thought. I have a grandson now and have just installed a rear facing baby seat on the left side second row seat position. I was quite surprised by how far forward I had to put the front passenger side seat, not a lot of knee room to the glove box now. I pulled the baby seat out and installed it in my wife's little 4 door Suzuki car and there is more knee room in her car. Interesting!

Install it in the middle position and it'll give you plenty more room, and its a safer location for the kid seat

Make sure you stick something on the back to protect the leather from the baby seat. The last owner of ours has done some mild damage to the top corners of one of ours.

This doesn't surprise me Mike. LR have retained plenty of room for the 3rd row and the consequence is reduced leg room for front passenger compared to vehicles with only 2 rows of seats.

Yep, discos have always been a tad undersized in the second row.

    Isofix

I use the Isofix system that is in my car to mount the baby seat, it is only fitted to the two outer positions. It is a significantly superior mounting system than using the lap/sash seatbelt method. I will just have to put up with the issue till I can turn the baby seat to forward facing about 6 months or so

The idea was probably driven by the more upright seating position of a Disco ... meaning more foot well depth to accommodate the driver and passenger's length, freeing up more middle row space?

I found the same as well with having the baby seat on the side and quickly switched to the middle. Now with the second baby we have one behind driver and one in the middle. ISO fix is good but conventional system is just a safe as ISO fix. Big advantage to isofix is that it's a fool proof system to install and pretty much impossible to put in incorrectly from what I've read of the internet (that never lies)!!
