Brake life

Hi I know mine is RRS but brakes/weight power all similar. I live on Sunshine Coast in roundabout city. I tow a bit. Driving is mix of highway and city. At 65k on car there is still heaps of pad left both front and rear. I drive enthusiastically but with some mechanical sympathy. Brakes are stock/original. Car does get dirty but mainly sand use.

Sounds about right - I replaced my pads at about 65,000km and they were only about 1/2 worn and the rotors 1/3 worn. I will replace the next set of pads at about 130,000km with about plenty of meat left and the rotors 2/3 worn.

I have heard lots of stories about pads and rotors wearing out quickly and the need to do both at the same time but that has not been my experience.

Mine look to be around half worn,done around 50K,no towing.

Once they need doing i will do same as others,Akobono(spelling ?),and DBA rotors.

Since the power upgrade SWMBO seems to drive it like a racing car,so i think it will go through them quicker now....

As a comparison:
My D4 is on second set of pads all round at 80k. Also just done front rotors replacement.
Sydney driving, but around 1/4 of kms done touring (Simpson and VHC) if TC affects brake wear.
Independent Landy mechanic thinks this is pretty good for D4.
I was surprised at first, but then stopping 2.5T takes a bit!!

When asked about how long brake parts "should last", I am reminded of the anecdote I was told by one of the support mechanics for the Citroen contingent in the London - Sydney Marathon about 45 years ago. Two of their cars were within a few points of each other when they arrived in Fremantle. One needed the brake pads replaced for the third time, the other had them replaced for the first time "even though they didn't need it".

Same route exactly, same speeds almost exactly, identical cars, same load. What was different? The drivers!
