    Iveco Daily 4x4 Motorhome

I am considering purchasing a motor home based on a former SA Country Fire Service vehicle.I feel it would be very outback travel capable how ever the only fault I can see is the very low highway cruising speed of 85kmh.
    It is a 1995 model49.12 3.60M code1313132
I also have the vin no but wont publish on open forum.
I would like to know if an overdrive could be fitted for hghway cruising or would diff ratios need to be changed.RA ratio on compliance plate says 4.4
Also would this be a prohibitive cost to undertake
Eagerly awaiting some help with this dilemma
    Thanks
    Mary

Wow ! - sounds like a formidable vehicle Mary - you would be able to carry heaps of stiffen your travels.

Fuel economy may be a bit disappointing. I do not know what gearing alternatives are available. Hopefully one of the Iveco users will chime in.

Further investigations, research & trial drives will help you decide I hope.

Would you ever need to change a tyre? (I think they're very heavy) and you'll need a high clearance carport/garage

All the best with whatever decision you make

    iveco 4x4

    Thanks for your reply
Changing wheels is the least of my concerns atm.I can change a Defender wheel in most circumstances at my own slow and steady pace using maxtrak to roll the wheel down off the door and back up again
With the Iveco I am really seeking knowledge of any known faults of the 1995 models
Ie anyone who had experience of these vehicles when in service with SA Country Fire Service would know of any inherent mechanical problems
Also would anyone know if parts for these are available or would I be purchasing an orphan
Only other 2nd hand 4x4 small motorhome I can find is based on a 4x4 Hilux .Not as capable but easy to source parts mech expertise in outback.
Hoping someone with Iveco experience can help
    Thanks
    Mary

I think the Lux would be on it's limit with a motorhome body on it

There are less than a handful of 49.12 4x4 Ivecos in the country. I believe this is a 2nd generation Iveco.

Parts will be a problem for sure, you will be on your own there.

There is no reason you should not be able to do over 100kmh with 4.4 diffs considering the Overdrive 5th gear and 1:1 High Range, there is no external override availability . what size tyres has it got ?

Reliable vehicle, Italian Electrics on par with Lucas, No Computers.

suggest you trawl the Iveco Forums Iveco Daily Forums

    Tyre size 7.50 x16

Thanks for your advice.Havent driven it but dealer says 85kmh top speed
Don't want to buy something that will be difficult to source parts or mech expertise to fix probs
Should have bpught a 6x6 Perentie and built a motor home on it
    Cheers

No the New Iveco 4x4 satisfies a LandRover owner ,

They are Individually Hand Made to order
    They Leak Oil
    The Transfer Case runs Hot
    They have Electrical Issues
    Hoses rub through
Every one is unique & each drives very different & they definitely have their own personality
The dealers suck & no one else will work on them

Never say yours is going great unless touching a piece of wood

They are a extremely sure footed & an awesomely capable 4x4 !

That list will satisfy any LandRover owner but .....sorry they dont leak water or dust .

Yes, but....... The Iveco doesn't satisfy the "Meccano" experience, so beloved of Oka and Land Rover owners! The Iveco is more Lego-meets-ipad.
