Just purchased side steps, roof rails cross bars, front & rear mud flaps from Duckworths in UK. Their price including shipping and GST was about $1500 less than the local JLR dealer. I can't understand why accessories for LR's are so expensive in Australia compared to UK and USA.

What is the point of LR even advertising a price on their website???

If you buy from a dealer the price includes fitting, and they are covered under the car's warranty if fitted at original purchase time. However, buying elsewhere can save some money, and most of the accessories are reasonably easy to fit yourself if you're at all handy and have a few tools. The instructions are available online, so you can decide in advance if you think it's something you could handle... LAND ROVER ACCESSORY FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

So far LR accessories I've fitted myself include foot rest & pedal covers, mud flaps, cargo guard, and roof rails. Non LR stuff I've fitted include door and loadspace scuff plates, under body protection plates, and an electric brake controller. In fact the only thing I didn't do myself was the towbar because that involved taking off the bumper and dropping the exhaust system which I didn't fancy doing on a new car.

However, if you don't want to do it yourself, I'm sure any local mechanic or 4WD centre would be more than happy to help (although I can't give any specific recommendations because I'm not in Sydney), and the fitting instructions include time it should take so you can make sure you aren't ripped off

No, the front one replaces the original plastic engine tray, the two side ones protect the fuel tanks, and the rear one the rear diff. None of them protect any of the exhaust components, and I don't know of any underbody protection that does, as the idea is to protect essential components that wouldn't allow you to move if they are broken, and the exhaust is pretty much sacrificial!

In fact even though I bought the full set I never fitted the fuel tank ones as the tank is plastic and pretty well protected with a double skin already, and I've since removed the rear diff one because it reduced the departure angle at the rear and I was hitting more things than without it.

With hindsight, if you're going to do a lot of off-roading, I think a spring lift and just the engine skid plate is the way to go.

Seriously, is the factory fitted engine protector just plastic? I was underneath my DS today and thinking how glad I was there was a big piece of metal there already, even if it is a bit thin.
