2006 HSE Bluetooth Phone/Audio Options

Hi All,

My new ride is a 2006 D3 HSE with Harman Kardon audio.
Alas, there is no blue tooth fitted to either stream audio or do telephone calls.

I have searched here and other UK based fora for a solution and there seem to be plenty for the base and mid audio fits, but a lesser amount for the HK audio fit.
Is there a difference in solution? Or is there a commonly accepted go to solution? I'd prefer not to use a USB, cig plug or 3.5 jack solution as they is ugly and not at all elegant. I'm also keen to take advantage of the HK audio.....coz I play it loud!

I have found some references to the Parrott and African Outdoor kits and a few other brands but no definitive go to solution. Others recommend fitting the factory D4 kit. What have y'all done in your rigs?

I also have a spare early model nexus 7 tablet that I intend to mount and use for maps, audio etc so I'd love to incorporate this.

Any advice?

I will be interested in reading the replies too Ralph. I did a bit of research and ended up going the 12V plug $22 version as I couldn't justify the cost of any replacement unit to get bluetooth (and reverse camera) functionality.

However we have another trip planned for July so I live in hope that I might get told that I have to do it.

I'm keen to s good solution as well. I researched fitting the LR bluetooth for the D3 but it would cost about $2500 and only answer phone calls. No streaming of music.


I am currently using a che gadget into theux jack which is messy and really needs a second person to play DJ he it rarely gets used.

Hi, I was looking at something like this, but call me fussy lol, I don't want to lose the sound quality of the HK. Anything pumped into the aux socket is stereo.
This doesn't mean the device doesn't work well, I'm just trying to utilise the cars ability.
I second the question, where did you mount it?

That said, as I currently have no way to bluetooth, I may have to look at these type of options in the short term.

If you have the Harmon Kardon system then it's possible to add a factory bluetooth module from a later D4 to the D3 and it works (works better than the original ones from 2006 anyhow, because the newer modules are compatible with the newer phones).

Have a look at my Freelander2 build thread, you can see how I fitted a factory bluetooth phone module, it is basically the same process in a D3 except different phone module (the L319/L320/L322 uses a different module to the L359/X250).

You will need to activate the phone functions in the CCF, i.e. you need a suitable diagnostic tool.

For Bluetooth Streaming there was no factory option at that time, but there are a couple of ways to go about it without losing the sound quality, none of these options are particularly cheap. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend...

I guess for now I'll have to suffer with stereo noise through the aux input. Truth be known, I am more after music streaming than phone.
I'll look into digital audio, that's cool!

One way to do the bluetooth streaming (and you may get lucky here finding a cheap kit), is to use the Audio Connectivity Module accessory Land Rover Accessories Online Catalogue. - DISCOVERY 3 - INTERIOR - Functional and Technology - Audio Connectivity Module and then add a WMA1000 Bluetooth Streaming unit https://www.soundlabsgroup.com.au/p/...udio+Streaming to the iPod cable. It's a bit of a cobble together, but it's one way to do it.

Yeah the DAB+ Digital Radio is nice, it's also possible to retrofit into a D3 with the Harmon Kardon system.

I like the look of that audio module. Wonder what versions of iPhone / iOS it is compatible with?
