    Broke my unbreakable Perentie again

Hi Guys, I was cruising down the highway around 95kph when it sounded as if something gave out and a large rumbling /rattling noise occured. Turned motor off and glided to a halt with the noise subsiding as I slowed down. I checked underneath (one of those rare occasions when I was cleanly dressed) for anything obvious but no luck. Sounds like gearbox but both oil sections are full and clean and gears change fine and high and low work. Limped into nearest town and took the car back home on a trailer. Have checked diffs/ loose tailshafts and cant see anything obvious. Next step is to jack it off the ground, remove transfer case cover and run it with wheels off the ground. Any thoughts please.

    Cheers

So it was still driving without having to engage the centre diff lock?

If so, that does sound more gearbox related rather than a diff or driveshaft issue, particularly if you've already had a peak in the diffs.

Check cheap fixes like loose engine or gearbox mount bolts. I had a loose gearbox mount bolts that made quite a sound like a serious gearbox or diff problem.

Finally got around to fixing it

Hi Guys, I have been away for a while. Finally got the time to sort out the problem. Front rubber tailshaft boot had split along the shaft. As the speed increased the rubber opened up and flapped against the gearbox. New boot fixed it. Only took me 2 months to get to it.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
