Talk to MickG he knows all about problems with chips, he has had his chip in Bruce Davis's workshop more than it's been in the car!
Heard on the grapevine that some forumites removed or are having dramas with their chip upgrades, got a big trip planned and would like to know more, anyone care to enlighten me, thanks.

Hi crump, still working through some issues with my manual TD5 which always seem to come back to the ECU. It has been looked at a couple of times and replaced once but my car is still not running as it should. In the new year I will be swapping it with a factory one for the day to see if that eliminates some of my drive problems, but until then I can't really say that it is definitely the ECU causing the probs. I'm 99% sure it is and someone who has had similar issues to mine and knows a lot more about it would be Greylandy on this forum.Originally posted by crump

Good luck with our search and if you fit one and don't have issues, you wont regret it. Mine worked first class for a week in July this year and you couldn't take the smile off my face - turned to mud again though and i'm still troubleshooting.
Aye, Mick
i've had my chip in mine from new, well almost new (3 weeks)
never had a problem with it yet

I actually had the ECU replaced not just a flash the chip job, dunno if that makes a difference, but when you say problems, what are we talking about, it runs rough, it explodes, it stops, exactly what?
Since fitting my chip I have the following probs;
Lack of throttle response - judders and sometimes stalls when taking off at lights. Down on power, blows plumes of smoke at lower revs, low down torque is woeful, gear changes are not as smooth as they used to be, jerky sometimes when coming on and off throttle etc
To fill you in a bit more whi may help, mine is a '99 TD5 with 128,000 on it, 265/75R16 muds, 4.11 diff gears (which should bring the gearing back a bit further than standard due to the 31"tyres)
Aye, Mick
Greylandy had issues - think its now been removed
Noddy had issues, but seemed to have them fixed - currently on a 12 month trip around Aus and no issues about chips from what I've heard.

Hi Hiline
From what I recall reading on here,the ealier 99/00 TD5 actually need the replacement ECU,the later ones like yours is just a re-program issue.
