ANyone know a good air-con place in N Brissie for Defender ?

    300Tdi Defender 130.

The air con is on the blink - both the switch and probably needs a re gas (not sure if there's a leak).

As much as I'd like to put a proper after-market air con in, I can't afford to and the missus hates not having air con. If I'm to get her out in the ute, I'll need to get it fixed.

Does anyone know a good air con place in northern Brisbane area that will work on Defenders / has some knowledge of the aircon units in them?

Some places don't seem to want to know about it the minute "Defender" is mentioned...

    Thanks

See Tom at Kooler Air in Newman Road Geebung. He knows Defenders plus he can custom make anything relating to aircon.

Are you sure these guys will take on a defender??

I was recommended these guys and when I dropped in they were not interested. Although mine was starting from scratch which I thought would fall into the custom make category

I'm in need too - I'm hoping this time it's just a re-gas rather than another dead TX valve.

I've had good experiences with Sterling Auto Electronics in the past on various VWs. Haven't found out if they do LRs or more specifically Puma's yet.

I've emailed them to see if they are interested in looking at a Defender. Will report back.

Funny you should say that Weeds.

I recently installed air con in my 1972 Peugeot 504. After hearing about your experience with your 110, I started at Mr Cool at Milton. They were not interested and gave me Tom's number.

Tom was very helpful and provided me with heaps of advice and the parts. I did however do all the hard work installing everything myself which took many hours and I can now understand why the cost to custom install air con is so expensive.

In the end, Tom just crimped the hoses and gases up the system for me.

He does heaps of custom installs and one day I was there he had a Defender that was being fitted with a rear mounted air con unit.

Vladtapes, you would be better to drop in. But firstly, have you checked the fuses? There should be a small fuse block with three fuses (either on the main fuse blockon the firewall or in your battery box) plus there is a mega fuse in a black box near the heater unit. Check these first

Umm.....that's interesting, I have to drop mine back to Mr Cool to check the anti freeze thingy.

It sure if I spoke to Tom but I kinda thought the guy I spoke to called the shots.....they turned me away pretty quick.

I have used K2 aircon from Birkdale on my 300tdi defender. He did not shirk at working on the vehicle and fixed my problems

As to electronics, the blue relay on the aircon circuit board stopped working. From memory, it activated, but did not switch the outputs. I could not find a drop-in replacement, so had to mount a remote relay

I want to have mine looked at as a last ditch effort before I pull it out and replace it with a custom unit. The fan blows, but not much, and it just doesn't get cold at all.

Interested to see how you go. Let them know there will be a referal if they look after you
