Any thoughts on Bog Out

Saw this ( BOG OUT 4x4 Vehicle Recovery System |Turns bogged wheels into winches) at a trade show recently. Only downside I can see is angle to anchor position may be an issue?

Looks good as forward or back would work. Wheel Clearance with Disco 3 or 4 after a few wraps might bite
Each tow line breaks at 2160kg which to me with Murphy's law meaning my 3 tonnish butt on one line could be a deal breaker in some circumstances but the FAQ suggests other wise.

At $279 for the double it looks like a cheap and effective option. I would have needed a exertion strap to use it in almost all my own recoveries. Another thought would be could you splice one your self? (Sssh me)

For about the same cost you can get a set of maxtracks or Tread's that are a far more versatile option and you won't need a tree or any other anchor point to use them.
I can also see these "Bog outs" doing quite a bit of damage if they slip off the wheels or get tangled with the break lines etc. during a recovery.

I'd reckon that once you're out of the mire(say 3m away), hopefully you're back onto harder ground. Jack the affected wheel up enough to get some air under it and unwind them off?

ps. I'm just answering the question, no affiliation with the product. Looks interesting tho.

They are at every show....main problem I see is there is generally nothing right in front or behind you to use as an anchor point as you're generally going down a track....especially on the beach there would be next to no anchor points.

For the price of them I think maxtrax would be a more versatile piece of recovery equipment.

There are not too many situations where a winch, maxtracks and a decent recovery kit won't get you out of strife and adding yet another recovery system to your kit is a bit of overkill.
Normally an ounce of common sense and Not getting stuck in the first place is worth more than 100kg of recovery gear anyway

Wouldn't be much fun to pack up after you've just used them to get you out of a bog hole. Also, like snatch straps, when they get impregnated with dirt or sand, etc, their life span will be greatly reduced. Not much way of avoiding doing this by their very design.

I wold have thought a used tirfor would be far more useful... smaller to package and store and have a 101 uses around the house ..... Oneday I will get one
