    Restricted Performance P006A - 2010 3.0 TDV6

    Hi all,
So my trip back from Ningaloo WA to Perth was dogged by endless restricted performance errors that would reoccur despite resetting with the IIDTool. It slowly got worse until the point it would not only occur during towing, but also when driving the car up the road. The only error, P006A - MAP/MAF correlation error pointed to a high pressure air leak. After making myself a smoke test machine out of a milo tin, an air compressor and half a dozen mozzie coils lit with a blow torch, the leak was found within the throttle body. The plastic weld that joins the body to the Y section had cracked. This was probably exacerbated by the replacement of the RHS intake manifold some time back, as you have to manhandle the unit to get it out.

Now to decide a course of action. Superglue and sikaflex come to mind in my bush mechanic head, and might be my course of action as a temporary fix until I order a new one.

Note the EGR scum in one of the pictures.

I admire your diagnostic skills in tracking down the fault. I doubt if I would have been able to do that.
    Cheers .........

Tested out the car today after letting everything cure for 24 hours. Problem solved!
Now to find some silicon hoses for the main boost pipe work to preempt other potential failures.

Was wanting to check mine.Justin Cooper told me how to find a crack the JC way,so easy its stupid.
Simply remove the noise cover.Cover the intake manifold with a sheet of white paper(the desktop jotter pads machinery dealers hand out are perfect).Replace the noise cover,go for a short drive using plenty of throttle. There will be oil mist lines on the paper if you have a crack anywhere.Mine was good.

    Brilliant Bush Engineering!

Brilliant Aussie ingenuity! My L320 just started have intermittent flat spots and is showing P006A code so I will have a look there.
    EGR crud is horrible!!

I cracked a throttle body which has the same outcome, so if the paper trick doesn’t work, check that out as well. They’re known to break after the mechanism where the Y section is glued to the main body.

    Throttle body cracks

    Hey guys,

Was half way between Coober Pedy and Port Augusta when I got the exact same fault. This post helped me go directly to the problem and repair the crack. This forum is gold. The info from fellow members is priceless! I had my manafold covers replaced 9 months ago, and the oil filter replaced 4 weeks ago, just before the trip. We’ve come from Brisbane through Cameron Corner, down the Strezlecky, up the Oodnadatta, up to Alice, out to the west macs, through Uluṟu and heading home vie Port Augusta and Broken Hill. 7,000 km since the oil filter change, so plenty of time for the crack to propagate. And we have been pulling a 3.5T caravan! Who said Rangie’s are crap…bloody fantastic actually!
    Cheers

Well done, sounds like an awesome trip. Best fix for the intake piece is a new one, they are not that dear. They need to seal tight, I remember fighting with mine and continual P006 errors, popping the o ring out where the right anlge inlet connects and so on.
I ended up zip tying the thing on until the new one arrived, which fixed it permanently. The assembly slots wear and they crack due to heat cycling.

Totally agree. She in in with the mechanic getting the permanent fix done ATM. The trip home was problematic as the P006 code didn't go away. Had no problem maintaining 80KM/H, but it appears that the restricted performance also turns off trailer sway control and suspension (air bag) management. It was very uncomfortable driving like that, but when you are back o Bourke, there is not much choice. I couldn't find any info about what systems are degraded in restricted performance, but I managed to get up to 80km/h without triggering the code, and handling was normal and smooth. The moment the light came on, it all went pear shaped. Anyway, thanks Eric.
