Hi Noddy
sounds like an aerial problem to me
have you checked the connection at back of the radio :?:
Howdy All
Interested to know whether TD5 owners (Defender or Disco) have many problems with AM/FM radio interference from their vehicles.
I know the TD5 is notoriously noisey and has caused some headaches with HF radios and the military.
Mine has reached the point where the radio can barely pic up a signal once you are 10-20km from a receiver....next to useless in the country and very frustrating when trying to listen to the cricket.
Has anyone played around with trying to reduce the interference?
Thanks in advance
Noddy

Hello Noddy, go with BigT's suggestion.
Such a low range appears to be more than interference. The antenna is the most likely cause so check the leads and the antenna itself. If everything is connected OK, then replace the antenna and cable and see what happens. If the problem persists then try a new radio.
I had never really been happy with the am/fm reception in mine and fitted an external antenna. Reception is much improved.
Hi Noddy
Check the fitting on the "ariel window",where the wire joins the glass,it may have come loose,or if children are using the rear seats, little fingers may have pulled it off.

Got a Pioneer P7750MP radio and no worries, picks up clear signals where other cars struggle. It is tons better than the old original landy radio, so that does make a big difference!! I'm with the rest check the arial first, then the booster (think it's in your door, not sure) and then the radio.
Remove
1. Remove rear quarter upper trim casing.
2. Disconnect coaxial lead and Lucar connector
from amplifier.
3. Disconnect amplifier from aerial.
4. Remove bolt securing amplifier and remove
amplifier.
I have mine mounted on the bull bar and while it is much better, still is not perfect at long range.

his radio antenna is mounted on the guard....not on the screen.....see pic below....
its a defender.....(great cars)
but the cable may have come off or worn through where the snorkel goes
through the guard and pushes against it.....
or the plug may simply just not be fully inserted into the back of radio....
there are no amplifiers....just coax cable straight from the antenna to the radio.....
there is however a 90 degree angle adapter......

I'd agree its likely to be the aerial/lead, not TD5 electrical noise.
For better reception, fit the GME AM/FM aerials. With the long one, I can sometimes get both Melbourne & Brisbane ABC, in Sydney. The shorter GME is also better than the standard telescopic.
