Thank you. That is fascinating. The MK IX Spit that his plane was apparently based on would arguably be the best aircraft to come out of the war, although the Mosquito would give it a shake. The Merlin 63 fitted to many Mark 9s is an astonishing engine.

Those photo recon guys had cojones, relying purely on speed to avoid enemy fighters. The Spit and the Mossie were fabulous platforms for the purpose.
