Baz.
Hi,
After having some issues with my AMV difflock kit thanks to the so called local "land rover Experts" i am at the stage of puting it all back on myself again now.
I had to get some work done on the transfercase, it all seems sorted out now but the sensor wasnt working when the cdl was locked. I removed the switch and found it was stuffed but lukily i had one in another gearbox i have here and it definetly works. Now i have put this switch in but it still doesnt seem to work?
Can anyone tell me how far in does it need to go to actualy work? it has a stopper nut which is probobly about 10mm from the smaller end nut, i tried bolt it in a bit further but made no difference, Can anyone help me?
Thanks,
Mick.

Hi Baz,
Yeh that was my next step, still having some problems with the magnetic switch on the AMV mounting plate thing now but i have sorted out the sensor on the transfer case, i found a rebuild manual for a LT230Q here -http://www.brownchurch.co.uk/download.html
It has detailed instructions on removing and replacing the switch as well as alot of other very useful info.
I actualy got it working last night and took it out on stockton beach for a run, its the first time its worked properly I think. I tested it a bit in the soft sand, it made a huge ammount of difference, the CDL locked and ETC off is great for cruising around the dunes with no loss of power from ETC - but crawling out of being bogged in the really soft stuff CDL with ETC on worked great.
The only time we got stuck was on the track back from the beach, we came across a jeep with massive 20in chrome wheels stuck in the soft sand as we went to go around him so did a land cruiser from the other direction so we both had to come to a quick stop... both of us got stuck as well as the Xtrail that was following us I managed to get it up the side of the track a bit so cars could get around us and then we helped dig and push the Jeep out, then the land cruiser we it came to our turn to get out the others had taken off not bothering to help us, but lukily a bloke in a patrol gave us a tow out of the soft stuff and we got going again, its a shame we had to be recovered by a Nissanops:
There we about 20 Disco 3s on the beach today some kind of training by trivett - to bad they couldnt have saved me...
Thanks for the help
Mick
Good to see all is OK with the CDL not good that the cars you helped buggered off without helping youand probably better being pulled out by the Nissan than a Toyota

I don't bother disabling the ETC anymore i found the car pulls better with it on everywhere.
You might of noticed i didn't mention any NSW repairers, i found the Vic repairers more helpfull and friendlier to deal with, and they to more forthcoming with info.

Cheers Baz.

We came across a stuck Toyota in the morning near the wreck. I wanted to stop for a photo but I was told that taking a photo of a stuck Toyota is like taking a photo of a seagull![]()

Where you with the group of D3s?
we got stuck on the track back off the beach just as it gets narrow then there is a sharp left hand turn(on your way off) and then it turns into a big soft spot - i have seen heaps of trucks stuck here. We got stuck there after coming across the other cars.... it was all ripped up and very soft from the other cars that were stuck.
I did see a few other disco's out there, 1 Defender 130, but none in groups with more then 1 land rover. We head out almost every weekend, and i have helped several others out of bogs its the 2nd time i have ever needed to be snatched out on the beach. last time was the first time i drove the disco on the beach.
Yes, we had around 10 D3s, 1xD2, 1xFreelander & a Volvo XC90.
It was a drive day for Trivett LR/Volvo sales & service staff.
The Volvo got stuck on the access track from Lavis Lane![]()
& needed to be kept at around 5500rpm all day to make progress.
The Freelander was the surprise - it was the only type of car that didn't get stuck all day.
We left the beach at Anna Bay. It was easy going there so I assume you got caught out at Lavis Lane.
It was my first sand drive experience - I can't wait to go back in my RR in a few weeks time (see Yabbies thread).

Well you would have seen me, i pulled up next to your trip leader and asked him what was going on, all the D3's lined up along the waters edge facing the sea at the time, i drove past in front of you all just before you took off, i was in my D2 V8 silver in color. I gave it a good bit of revs as i passed you all
Its funny i think everyone except for the Volvo waved to me
Yes i did get stuck at lavis lane, i think my problem was more so the 255/55 18s..... not much belly on low pressures!! i gota upgrade...
I remember - we were just leaving the wreck (I was just starting my stint in the white Freelander & I waved as you drove pastOriginally posted by cal415

I don't recall any Volvo "bashing" on here at all, so why don't we start now:

Hehehe nice pic, thats not far from where i was stuck on the track.
i see plenty of cars stuck along that section, how did the D3's handle that soft stuff? and how did it go getting traction to pull the volvo out? do you know what size/type of tyres they were running and how low they took them down for the sand?
