Extended travel suspension without retaining cones

I'm looking into a suspension set up for my '98 defender 110, that will allow me approx 2" lift and greater wheel travel than standard. I don't want anything extreme; just a small lift and a bit more travel. What are my options without modifying mounts/using retainers etc? I dont tow or carry heavy loads. So far i have thought about APT super flexi coils paired with terrafirma prosport +2 inch shocks, but have heard mixed reviews on terrafirma products. Cheers

If you go a 2in spring lift and only get 2in longer shocks you've got the same travel just in a taller defender. Have a look a Gwynn Lewis challenge kit ( terrafirma copied it)in the uk , his kit lifts the shock mounts so you can fit a 11-12 in travel shock, standards about 8in, with a 2in lift so you get more travel in both directions. I've got it fitted with ome shocks (6070L from memory about 11.5in travel from a 3in plus front of patrol lift kit)and dobinson springs 2in lift and it's been great for about 4 years. I am going to need a firmer rear spring eventually as I carry a bit of load .

Tough Dog have several choices of shocks with a +35mm spring lift and +40mm on the shocks. The medium kit might be worth investigating for your needs.

I suggest you might have a look at this thread, if you haven't already, as it discusses a different approach, which could be both cheaper and more effective than lifting.

 Front springs for a 110....130's or 110HD
