Which tyres for snow should I put on

Quick Q about Tyres in snow.

I currently have cheap hankock All terrains on my defender that I use for every day driving, I also have a set of BFG KM2 Muds in the shed I use for trips when I can be bothered changing them.

Which would be best for snow driving? We are taking the Kids to Perisher for a week in August skiing, and I assumed the KM2's would be better but I have now read various opinions which has left me confused.

Any insight would be great.

The info I have seen suggests that a milder tyre is better. Snow is somewhat like sand.

Check to see whether the Hankooks are marked "M&S" as this AFAIK is a US requirement for tyres found to be OK in snow.
For that matter check if the Mud Terrains are marked "M&S" which I am pretty sure they are.
But there is probably not too much difference anyway.LOL

Hankook AT-ms are actually quite a good all-round tyre, so don't write them off.
M + S tyres usually have a mild tread pattern, but not always.
Muds dig holes in mud to reach a firmer bottom. This is good on unsealed roads, but if it is snow on bitumen and the problem is ice, not mud, then maybe not so helpful. Mud tyres have large blocks which can squirm on ice. Smaller blocks such as your ATs may not squirm as much.
I assume you will be required to carry snow chains.
We went to Mt Hotham in a hired RAV-4 with road tyres and fitted chains.
Will you be on sealed or unsealed roads?
What labels are on the sidewalls of your tyres? Do they say M + S? Do they say 3PMSF, which is a real winter tyre?

You will be more likely driving on wet bitumen. Which do you prefer to drive on? If it were me id say small block road tyres would be best . So the A/t 's.

What ever tyres are already on the vehicle, there's no snow anyway😊.
I used to live at dinner plain, wife had a ****box cortina with crap tyres, never had an issue, and if snow was plentiful, we used chains

I am VERY impressed by the Duratrac LT on my D2. I have had many tires but these are the best off-road by far and 99% closest to the best on. They are a snow tyre. The north Americans love them in snow. Cheers
