Why are FL2 prices still firm?

Why has the release of that Disco Sport thingy not crashed the prices of the FL2 TD4 HSE through the floor?

Buggers.

Could it be that the Disco Sport (like the RR Evoque and newer RR Sport, Velar etc) has that catastrophically ugly "something sat on me and crushed the back of the roof" look, so the more traditional 'squarer' landies are still in demand...?

I know a couple of people who were expecting the prices to have dropped by now as they wanted one as a second car (or for their kids). Guess they will still be waiting as more people have woken up to the fact they are excellent cars and the only thing they have similar to the FL1 is the name.

FL2 is a very good vehicle, not hugely mechanically different to early Evoque and DS models, and square shape appeals to many touring needs.

The Disco Sport is 'almost a Freelander 2 with a new rear axle' (for the 7 seats). The 'Sport' is a better road car, particularly torque-vectored, but for off-road, all the angles on the Freelander 2 are better. Only wading depth is better on the Sport.

Compared to the Evoque ('to be seen in') the Freelander 2 has really good visibility, particularly from the rear seats ('to see out of'). It's practicality versus trendy-looks.

And of course, most FL2s don't get off-road much; so you've a super-robust car with a gentle life - bound to last.
(See the clips of FL2s on 2 wheels triangle-balanced - can open and shut all doors. Only a Subaru will do that for 'lighter' SUVs, (mostly).

Word is getting around... I was going to get a Disco-Sport in 2018, maybe - but instead I'll be looking for a last-year-of-production 9-speed FL2. Or maybe just keep my existing base-model TD4 for another 100,000km. I wish I had that 'off-road cruise-control', though.

Still very pleased with my 6-year-old car...

Some interesting comments here. I didn't realise that the Freelander was so popular. I bought mine in October last year. I think it is a nice car to drive especially on the highway.

The Freelander2 was the most popular SUV in Europe, I think.
A bit rare in North America, where they don't sell the diesel.
There's/was a factory in South America, Itatiaia, Brazil. I believe, but I don't have much data, South Americans prefer the diesel. The Brazil factory makes Evoques, I thought they did make Freelanders.
Ditto applies for CKD in Pune, India.

Highway comfort applies squared for gravel. If it's good gravel and straight roads, it's easy to creep up to highway speeds.

I have had both as loan cars and truthfully enjoyed the Freelander more.

I think driving position is more similar to D4.

To be fair they weren't the same grade or engine.

The FL2 was a HSE diesel & the DS an SE petrol
