    Tdi maximum revs....

or how mechanically deaf are you ??

For those with a tacho in their Tdi, what are the maximum revs you've ever seen and under what conditions ?
I'm curious what a 'normal' operating range is for most and what they've seen in an 'extreme' situation.

I honestly cannot really tell you as I did not check it myself, but...
[list]-in everyday use you rarely have to go past 3.000 rpm
-in our place of the world you have those funny emission checks one a year where they rev the engine until the govenor kicks in. This has to be done three (sic!) times consecutively :x ouch! If the cambelt is fine, the engine will, well, tolerate it
-I believe (a matter of faith, eh?) the govenor is set to about 5.000rpm[list]

    Happy Australia Day, mate!

    80kph 1800rpm in fourth
    100kph 2250 in fourth

really they don't want to rev seem to hit the wall at about 4000rpm

Mine runs out of breath at 4,000. Then usually only used in first gear and on rare occassions.

According to the disc the Max governed speed is 4850 rev per min.

I have run to 4000 in 3rd a couple of times, and I have hit 150k a couple of times but did not check the revs. I suspect 4000 in 5th is 150.

Held flat with the Auto they up change at 4000rpm through every change to top, although I have never revved to 4000 in top

I know the manuals have the govenor around 4500-4750 8O 8O

Thats scary in a diesel, but they were designed to rev a little more than the bigger diesels

Well, now I don't know if my 200tdi is a bit crook or whether the (VDO) tacho isn't reading right. My engine seems to struggle much beyond 3000rpm, at least, that's where I start feeling too sympathetic to push it much further. Beyond 3000rpm doesn't seem to achieve anything in my beast anyway, other than making more noise.

Maybe the tacho is out, but I did set it up with an optical tacho when I installed it, and I can confirm that it's spot on at 1000rpm and 2000rpm.
