Question Will a Disco Tdi Fuel Tank mount into a Defender 110Tdi as a replacement tank?

    Guys,

Just wondering here but I was thinking if it is possible to install the Disco Tdi Fuel Tank into where the Defender Fuel Tank is mounted?
The chassis widths should be the same, but not sure whether the mounting position is the same so it got me thinking if it was possible. The Fuel tank in my Disco is around the 90ltrs and the Defender is about 75ltrs and I know the difference is minimal it's something extra.....

Has this ever been done before?

Not sure it will but the chassis is 50 to 60mm wider on a td5 than a disco as I once modified a tow bar from a disco to a td 5 defender.

I understand its bigger but in which way ? Width or length? Would this prevent it from bolting up in place of the original defender Fuel Tank?

I've only worked on a 1984 110 County fuel tank, so don't know if the later models have the same steel fuel tank arrangement. The steel fuel tank bolts to a lip inside of the tank space that would interfere with the plastic D1 tank. What holds the plastic tank in is a steel plate about 200mm wide that bolts on outside of the cavity that the tank sits in. Then there's a top strap stopping the tank from jumping upwards. I'm sure you could modify the vehicle to suit a plastic tank but it wouldn't be a drop in situation.

Oh and AFAIK all LR coil sprung chassis are 630mm between the rails at the back end, no difference from the first RRC chassis.

It's not just the a tank swop over , fixing holes do they line up you would have to check filler pipe , fuel pump and suply and return lines ? If it is an easy swop I'm sure there would be plenty of Defender owners that would do it . I have a series I disco wreak with a tank myself , so would be interested if it can be done ? Jim

    Question

Just wondering if there was any D1 Disco's that came out with Steel Fuel Tanks?

Don't suppose anyone has anymore info on whether a Disco tank could be mounted into a Defender.... ?

I'm thinking about increasing the Defender Tank size, so I assume the D1 Long Ranger Tank won't fit?
