    Flail mower blades

    Hi Guys,

It's time to tidy up the old flail mower I purchased a while back (and get it ready for spring). Does anyone know where to by some used or cheap "Y" blades. I don't mind what size as I'll just drill out the mounts to suite. It's a bonford turner flail with 76 pairs of Y blades (so 152 blades).

The mounts you'd just drill out and used high tensile M10 bolts in.

These could work, they are about 20mm shorter than the blades fitted. They all must be replaced. They are mosty the original blades I'm guessing, all buggered, most are bend, many are broken, quite a few are missing.

The machine itself seem to run nice and smooth, so all it needs is a lick of paint and some blades. It's a huge overkill for around my place, but I'll feel much safer using this than the 5foot slasher that has been known the throw stuff out the back at great speed ...

    seeya,
    Shane L.

My flail uses the hoe type blades that are heavy cast and stand up well to abuse but arguably wouldn't provide as nice a finish on the grass.

These blokes have a pretty wide range of blades Home Page

And these are cheaper but probably Chinese and not hard-faced FLAIL HAMMERS & Y BLADES FROM $5 - 1564/1563/1565/1566/1561/1560/1562 - Hayes Products - Tractor Attachments and Implements

    Thanks!

Yes, I have found them. They could be ok given the light use I'd be giving them. They are $12 a pair, so I'd be looking at $912.00 + bolts + delivery. When you take into account the quanity required, it gets very expensive, very fast.

I can buy a full set of bolts and flails from Flail Direct in the UK for about $760 delivered.

The lawn geenie blades in the USA I've linked above would be about $360 delivered for 156 blades. I would have to modify the mounts and buy 76 M10 bolts and nylock nuts locally though and cobble it together.

Always there is decisions. I'll sell the 5foot slasher once the flail s working... So don't have much to spend on the flail until then. But.... I don't want to sell the slasher until I have verified the flail is going to work ok ( Yes everything has to be complicated, just to make life fun).

What is interesting is wife doesn't even complain about me wasting money on buying a tractor and attachments ... So that is a bonus. She has seen how much better the yard looks, and how much we can do with a tractor here
