			EPB switch (not actuator) issue

					hey all

ok so no, this isn't the usual thread saying how bad my EPB "screams like a banshee" ... long story requiring an eventual replacement of the actuator unit.

 this one's a bit different.

recently my EPB started acting a bit odd, requiring "2 pulls up" to activate. After the first pull the park brake light on the dash flashes, and the message states to put my foot on the brake when activating the park brake (which of course I am). when I do it the second time, it activates normally.

this is really ****ing me off though! the whole '2 pull' thing...

I plugged in my IID tool and the fault code is "U0128-00 (28) Lost communication with parking brake control module". every time I clear the code, naturally it reappears after the '2 pull' thing.

 Any ideas? Faulty switch?

oh and yes, I have a new actuator in there, only about 3 months old.

 thanks guys
 Brian

Throwing it out there, but possibly dirty contacts in the brake pedal switch, or the switch needs adjusting.

 Cheers, Mungus.

They recon the micro switch under the park brake lever gets a bit of rubbish in it and plays up as well, causing faults.

Apparently it is an absolute bitch to get to in a D4,but easier in a D3.

Someone may chime in with what the fault code is which may give you a better clue to the fault.

mine brought up the orange Park Brake light on the dash once,i cleared the fault, but can't remember what it was.

 Luckily the fault hasn't returned.

FWIW, on the Hume Hwy near Yass last Easter on way back to Sydney while sitting on 110 km/h, I had a "EPB failed" message pop up on my dash. Never looked at error messages, as the display on my Nanocom Evo stopped working. (I have since had it repaired). Anyhow, after stopping to get fuel at Goulburn, the EPB still worked. No more error messages while engaging it - until weeks later - again while once again on the move. My D4 was in getting timing belts replaced and asked mechanic to look at it. Turns out it was a faulty switch. I could really tell the difference after it was replaced - must have been going out for ages.

 Good luck,
 Rob
