    Snippets of info for D5

    Hi all

I went to see the D5 today and confirm a few things I had heard that, and wanted to clarify.

    • The 19 inch tyres actually come with a 60 profile tyre - not a 55 like in the D4
    • ARB have taken 2 test vehicles and are well on the way to developing a full bumper replacement bullbar in alloy.
    • The infotainment systems actually seems to work, and is massively quicker than the D4. You can enter directions when moving. Optional traffic via a sim. Speaker is what you say is what you get - much simpler.
    • If you purchase the T2 terrain response which gives you the rear diff as well (circa $4k) then in sand mode the car will not drop height (from extended height) when exceeding 50kph
    • The towbar seems to be at a sensible height and includes the recovery point.
    • The seats do not lie as flat as the D4 and the boot opening is not as big, but apparently there is actually more volume.
    • Shame about the tailgate - the new loading platform (though i didn't see it) doesn't sound as good - it lowers/raises electronically.
    • Prices don't seem to have gone up as much as i had heard
    • 2ltr SD4 SE - 102,500 HSE 110,000 HSE lux 124500
    • 3ltr TD6 SE 110,500 HSE 114,500 HSE lux 129000

    hope this is handy

According to the published specifications, the suspension will drop at 80 kph from its 40mm raised height to normal height regardless of TR2, ediff or any TR modes. 75mm raised is limited to 50 kph. 40mm raised height is not specifically selectable.

The Only think I will add is the seats do go flat. You have to push the buttons again after the initial close. ie you hit button they go close to flat then hold them and they go down further... by design.

Re the rear tailgate flap its what you get use to. I prefer the Glass to Open like my x Kluger but hey only a small negative considering the positives of the car.

I will be real interested in what ARB come up with.

In their latest mag, they,ARB, say"With the next generation Discovery moving up several notches in terms of its luxury SUV type characteristics,we'er not convinced there is a place for it in the ARB stable. We will,of course, watch this vehicle roll out closely and would love to hear from any customers who would like to see ARB develop accessories for the new Discovery" Matthew Frost, National sales & Marketing Manager.

Maybe they have had a heap of enquiries since the mag was printed?

Who knows,we will have to wait and see.

A cargo barrier is essential for the travelling we do.It does appear,in the seven seater,it would be very difficult to fit one,due to the way the seats fold down, and the position of airbags, etc. The five seater may be different, but i haven't seen one.

I have to correct you there unfortunately. With both 2nd and 3rd row seats folded, the D4 has 2,588 litres of space, whilst the D5 has 2,406 litres, a 7% reduction. I sleep in my D4 whenever I go camping, so interior space is a key consideration for me and I notice these stats. Also, there is no way from the naked eye that the internal space in the D5 is larger than the D4. Sounds like more spin from the dealer.

    Hi mfpoli,

I slept in the D5 with no issues.

Lee - good to hear. I suspect the floor space is largely similar in square feet terms, with the reduction in volume in the D5 due to the lower ceiling height and inward sloping sides.

Perhaps try to sleep in the other direction (ie. with your feet to the back door). It may allow you to put a suspended shelf across the back which would give you some storage area for clothes, etc. I made a simple self out of 12mm ply which I suspend between the arm rests of the third row. Easy to remove when not travelling. Just a thought.

    Enjoy
