Low Viscosity DOT 4 brake fluid for Disco 3 - suggestions?

so the land rover specs call for a low viscosity DOT 4 brake fluid meeting ISO 4925 Class 6.

Can anyone identify a product readily available in Australia that meets that criteria?

I want to do a full flush, so if anyone knows the quantity that would help too.

It looks like Penrite DOT4 ESP will do it but it isnt stocked locally.

    thanks.

looks like the local Repco will ship it in for me at a reasonable price.

But yes its low viscosity for Electronic Stability Packages, so I guess if you didnt use low viscosity and had weird stuff happening with brakes etc then you might want to consider putting the right stuff in to eliminate that variable.

I just accepted it's easier to use the factory fluid and bought that last time rather than an alternative.

I'll be honest, I've never heard of low viscosity DOT4. One learns something new every day.

When I last looked for and bought brake fluid I found the genuine stuff from the dealer was by far the cheapest and of course it matches the specs.

Its a 340 km round trip to the nearest Land Rover dealership, for me.

Or a minimum $50 to get a Courier to pick something up.

So the Land Rover product isnt readily available for many of us out there around the country.

And being in WA, its why its cheaper, quicker and easier for me to order direct from the UK for most stuff than to get it from the East Coast suppliers, or even from Perth. I consider myself lucky to have Repco, SuperCheapAuto, Auto One, etc, in town. Most towns dont even have that.

    Brake fluid

I replaced my discs, pads and fluid a few months back. As you've suggested, finding a fluid that complies with ALL the manufacturer spec's is somewhat difficult.
I did some research on (non-OEM) fluids, and I think the most commonly available fluid I could find was Penrite Super Dot4 ESP - this complies with all LR specs (Dot4, ISO4925, Class 6).
I had to shop around a bit (my local Repco didn't stock it) - I think I got it from a Supercheap Auto (or AutoPro?)... but I did have to ring around to find someone who stocked it.

I rang my LR service mechanic to ask what they use (not a dealer) - I was told they use Fortron Super Dot4. This isn't Class 6 compliant (but I'm not sure what that really means).

I think there was a Shell product that also met specifications, but I couldn't find anywhere to purchase it.

    Hope that helps!

thanks, that confirms my findings. Local Repco have it listed and will get it in for me.

Funny thing, people get all pernickety about getting the right solution for the Auto box and transfer case - the Go bits... and then happy to ignore specs for the Stopping bits.

I dont mind spending a bit of time up front if it means avoiding mysterious or expensive problems later.

I like my terrain response to work at its best, as well as my stability control etc so it's not worth using a non-compliant fluid. ISO4925 Class 6 or nothing.
