    Optima D34 vs D34M

Just wondering if there are any differences other than an additional set of terminals between the Yellow D34 and the Blue D34M?

Are both of these suitable for the aux battery compartment in the D3? I believe the D34M is a bit taller with the extra battery posts so does this still fit height wise?

I need to replace my current Fiamm TR520 as its on the way out and dragging down my main battery.

I think the blue one is a marine battery? Both are 55ah. Most seem to use the yellowtop. The d34 is the one recommended by traxide to go into the second battery holder.

This may help a little. Although USA based, all relevant I guess.

I have a D34 in my D3 as the auxilliary battery. Never looked at the M model - didn't see the need.

Can't speak of the suitability for your application, but I run two of the D34M in my defender.
The specifications are the same between them- other than the terminal layout.
I prefer to use crimped lugs rather than the SAE posts with a multitude of things piggy-backed off of them.

Both the D34 and D34M batteries are identical internally. I have supplied both for use in D3/4. If you elect for the D34M, and want to use crimp terminals rather than battery clamps, you may need slightly different lead lengths. Also if not using the clamp posts, use a little silicon to stick the red post cover in place. I think that the Traxide kit is designed around the D34, and the battery clamp may get very close to the bolt connectors. Check with Tim on this.

    I have a D34M as my starting battery in my 2002 D2.
My first one lasted 4.5 years .
I had starting trouble on the way to Qld and thinking it may be the battery I bought a new one in Brisbane.( It turned out to be my injector washers but I am still happy with the Optima). I bought another D34M as I have the terminals as a combination of tower and bolt.

The retailer who sold me the D34M stated that "I would be lucky to get 18 months from the new one as the quality had declined since Optima shifted production to Mexico and that is what had kept the prices down".

This was a bit of a dampener so I guess we shall see.
