Some of you might find this machine interesting. I was approached to put my Unimog to trial as a severe service spray rig for controlling blackberries in some very rough and steep terrain. I looked at modifying it and what was required, the biggest issue was the lack of large enough tyres that would be required. A dozer blade and crawler gears were all possible though. By chance I came across a 1990 MB Trac 1300 Turbo for sale, with approx 9000hours it had had a hard life but it appeared that the bones were there, including 3.2m blade, full forestry protection, 1.6m tall wheels, 24 gears, front and rear 3PT Linkage and front and rear PTO.
The motor appears sound, however the 4WD system was RS, no lighting, very little electrical and no PTO operation.
The machine shares many components with a Unimog, but somethings are near impossible to find. It turned out after much investigation that the 4WD issue was infact a cracked front drive pinion. I disassembled the front diff and torque tube, crownwheel and pinion The CW&P is only available for around $9500AUD and is only available when 10 are ordered!! My local engineering firm took the job on and so far so good!
The tractor is back up and running with only the Brakes and new tyres to be finished. I am custom building an armoured 3PT linkage cage that will carry all the spray gear required. Should have around 2500litres of water on board with a seperate freshwater system, remote hose reals and fire fighting capacity.
