isuzu mux cracking inner gards

was looking around at differnt 4x4 and found something interesting about the mux isuzu dont know if it effects the collorado 7 but and thats the inner guards have been cracking which is quite worrying
anyone else herd of this happeneing?
i know fj cruisers had an issue but was fixed in newer models

isuzu has been blaming bullbars apprently but how does a bullbar effect an inner guard when its mounts to a seperate chassi

I cant' help with the cracking situation but if you are thinking of buying a MUX don't do it if you plan to do offroading!

I have driven one offroad and the traction control system was rubbish - even with 4WD selected on the little knob of evil, the power wasn't being split properly and all power disappeared out one diff...

I read that you have to know a super secret way of controlling the throttle to get the traction control to work properly in some situations. It was something along the line of: when you lose traction you have to keep the throttle steady for a period of time so the computer knows that traction is being lost and will divert it to other wheels.

So I presume when you get bogged with one diff you have to sit there spinning the wheels digging yourself in deeper before the computer realizes it's bogged...

Hi,
whilst we have not done any extreme 4wd as yet so far our new MUX has been faultless in the off roading we have done, and also when towing our 1800kg off road van. We have all the usual extras like bullbar, rear kaymar bar etc and so far so good. I believe it depends a bit on the type of bull bar fitted that may have caused some issues in a couple of cars--don't know why--but also remember the ongoing stream of complaints about our Defenders etc so all cars may have some issues.

One thing that has impressed us has been its towing ability--seriously much easier to use than out 130 puma as much more torque and economy, but agree that a puma 130 will do better in full off road conditions--hence we still have it. However, don't underestimate it if compared to some others--its 3ltr engine is great and torgue same as a V8 LC ute, also has a nice warranty of 130K kms and 5 yrs--way better than our puma.
Guess its horses for courses--puma can handle the rough stuff but we feel the MUX suits our needs perfectly and with its warranty we can't go wrong.

How about an update on how you are going?
We had an extended test drive of the 2018 MUX today and I was really quite pleased. Local dealer even good enough to come up to our property so we gave it a minor off road work out.

As far as I can see the 4wd system is like most of these, 2H (centre unlocked) 4H (centre Locked) and 4L (centre locked). The traction control will mean it will perform about the same as a D2a, at the expense of not having perm 4wd (unlocked).
The steady throttle is also the same advice for the D2 and defender TCS, it allows the ECU to determine spin and then brakes the errant wheel, great system when you drive it right.

Son in law has a 4 yo ( ish) D-max that had cracked inner guards. The stealer tried to blame his bullbar as well. I believe Fair Trading was involved in the resolution.

Hi, we have now done 30K kms in our LST MUX and no issues at all--we tow a horse float a lot, sometimes an 1800kg On The Move Off Road van, done mild 4wding and it really is very good. In fact just returned from Qld tonight and must say a lot of MUX's on the country roads, incl towing so they must be going ok. Oh--saw two Defenders too over two days of driving and will say I was in my 300tdi auto and got 10.5ltrs/100 kms with new variable turbo fitted--but MUX is all over it power wise.

Also check the engine bay sill rails. That's perhaps more common than wheel well inners.

Over 60k of use including lots of towing and some hammering through the flinders ranges and arkaroola i had no issues with the 2014 dmax auto i had. Bullbar side steps winch and ultimate suspension all round it was incredibly reliable, after the 490Nm remap and a big HPD front mount intercooler i was back to 9l/100. Great engine and gearbox but crap offroad compared to defender. Good high speed dirt with uprated suspension though 😈😈😈

Has been noticed at 15K and 80K kms.

Saw on another forum that a blokes 10yo LC200 was badly cracked in the inner guards, cost about 3k to repair from memory.
